Cancion Mixteca is an old Mexican folk song written by I first heard on the soundtrack of the movie "Paris Texas" by Ry Cooder.
From the web:
"Canción Mixteca" was written by Oaxacan composer and musician José López Alavez (1889–1974). He composed the melody in 1912 and wrote the lyrics in 1915 while living in Mexico City, expressing deep nostalgia and homesickness for his home region of Oaxaca. It has since become a famous Mexican anthem for migrants.
It is a beautiful song, especially Ry Cooder's performance.
I always request this from the Mariachi bands when down in Mexico. Here's my cover of it, including a few scenes from the Bucerias area.
Of all my videos, this one has by far the most watches. Lots of people love Cancion Mixteca.
Enjoy!
Love this song by Peter Gabriel. Recorded this cover a few years ago.
I remixed and mastered the audio in 2025
The 7/4 timing is really interesting to me, but it means I can't play and sing it at the same time!
One of my favourite Elton John songs. I really enjoy singing this one, and putting together the backing vocals. Elton John's band has some of the best backing vocal tracks!
